Steve Aoki Made an EDM Remix of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Theme, and It’s Terrible

There’s been a recent trend in pop music that is wholly insufferable: take a classic pop song, add a four-on-the-floor beat, layer on a new vocalist, and boom, you’re well on your way to the top of the charts.

This hit its low point with the David Guetta and Bebe Rexha song “I’m Good,” which had the otherwise pretty talented singer lazily drooling a melody over the Eiffel 65 classic with lyrics it sounds like she wrote in the cab ride to the studio. But as modern times have taught us, if you think you’re at the bottom, you can always go lower.

That’s where this new track from Steve Aoki comes in. Rather than farm the Billboard charts of yore for pop content, Aoki has instead turned to movie soundtracks — specifically, Pirates of the Caribbean (though the track also appears to be an edit adapted from a smaller producer). The result is both awful and something you’re probably going to be hearing on the radio for the rest of the summer.
