Strike, you’re out!
Given that baseball is a sport that involves a lot of surprise flying balls, it’s not a shock that a fan or employee will occasionally get struck.
That said, it’s always a fun surprise when the person getting hit is the same one calling the game.
At a game in 2023, veteran New York Yankees radio broadcaster John Sterling, 84, was in the booth when Boston Red Sox DH Justin Turner fouled off a pitch from Yankees reliever Clay Holmes in the ninth inning. The ball ricocheted into the press box — then proceeded to hit Sterling right in the head.
He played it off well, but ouch!
