It Took Just 24 Hours for Dianne Feinstein to Have Her Own Mitch McConnell Moment
Less than a day after 81-year-old Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell froze in the middle of a press conference apparently unable to speak, his colleague Dianne Feinstein experienced a similar slip, appearing confused while voting on the Defense Appropriations bill.
Though both Washington Senator Patty Murray and an aide encouraged the 90-year-old California Senator to simply reply with an “aye” during Thursday’s vote, the nonagenarian opted to read a lengthy prepared remark in favor of the bill instead.
After several moments of dictating the paper before her, a move that prompted whispers from her fellow members of Congress, both Murray and Feinstein’s staffer reiterated their previous asks.
“Just say aye,” Murray told the senator.
“Okay just …” Feinstein began before trailing off. “Aye.”
Who needs Boca Raton when you can just retire to the United States Senate?
Wow. This is just super sad. An aide whispered into Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s ear, “Just say aye.” I admire Sen. Diane Feinstein but this is NOT about gender. This is not about her character. This is about her capacity & ability to lead & this isn’t great. pic.twitter.com/ezyJRpDdlY
