A Ford Escape enthusiast (yep, that’s a thing) recently uploaded a “funny” photo to a Facebook group depicting a fresh coat of spray paint he’d added to his rims. In case you missed it, the “funny” part was that he had some old Magic: The Gathering cards laying around and used them for a buffer between the spray paint and the tire. -

In between breaking ribs laughing, one of his friends noticed a particular card that had been ruined in the process of protecting what I’m assuming was diamond rubber — a card known as the ‘Black Lotus…’ -

Why is it worth so much? Black Lotus is from a set of cards printed very early in Magic: The Gathering’s history known as the ‘Power Nine.’ The cards from this set are considered to be among the rarest and most powerful in the game, and were only printed between late 1993 and early 1994. While Captain Escape likely didn’t have the $200,000 version of the card, there’s a pretty good chance he lost quite a bit of money by ruining it. -
