A beloved pet, or Thanksgiving dinner? Either way, Bethlehem police want to know if you’ve lost a potbellied pig. It has a healthy appetite, if you judge by how police found it: rummaging through someone’s garbage late Wednesday on Chester Road in the city’s north side. It has a problem with authority: Police say it fled the scene on hoof, barricading itself into a small area to keep officers at bay. But thankfully — and don’t forget, it is Thanksgiving — the standoff ended without injury to police or swine. Officer Jacob Heaton was able to "successfully negotiate a resolution,” according to a news release. That earned piggy a ride downtown in a police cruiser, after Heaton and officer Michael Ozoa were able to leash the porker without injury. What does police Chief Mark DiLuzio think of the scofflaw? “I don’t want to bore you with the story,” DiLuzio said. The pig was held by the city overnight, before it won parole. Police said it was transferred to the custody of Lehigh County animal rescue, which can better care for it. “It’s not every day you get a pig in your headquarters,” DiLuzio said. -
