10 Possible Actresses to Play Captain Shepard In a Mass Effect Film
We recently posted a list of potential actors to play Shepard in a movie version of the massively popular game trilogy, Mass Effect. However, as the player can choose to be either male or female, it's equally possible an ME film might cast a woman as the lead. So here is our list of potential FemSheps (as coined by the gaming community).

1.
MIREILLE ENOS
Mireille Enos has been kicking ass on screen for some time now. While she started her acting career in the mid-90's, it wasn't until she played the role of the all-business, no bullsh*t Detective Sarah Linden in AMC's hit show, The Killing. She was such a convincing tough-as-nails cop, in fact, that her performance garnered her nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards.Enos continued her streak of playing the badass in legal thriller, The Catch, and then as War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in Good Omens. Currently, she plays villain-come-hero, Marissa Wiegler in the Amazon Prime hit series, Hanna. Enos certainly has the experience and the talent to play Captain Shepard in a Mass Effect movie. The woman was War, for pity's sake. -
2.
MORENA BACCARIN
Any geek worth his salt knows who Morena Baccarin is. She earned her nerd dream-girl merit badge starring as Inara Serra in the sci-fi series Firefly, as well as the follow-up film, Serenity. She played the lead alien in the rebooted V television show, from 2009-2011. Then she played Ryan Reynolds's paramour, Vanessa, in both Deadpool movies. As if that wasn't enough, she took on the role of Dr. Lee Thompkins in the Batman-based series, Gotham. This girl has earned her stripes, and is ready to take the reigns of a genre film of her own. -
3.
KRYSTEN RITTER
We all know Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, super-powered, alcoholic private eye, from the hit Marvel Netflix show of the same name. Her displays of power and dominance in that show alone qualifies her for this list. But she has performed a fairly wide range of other characteristics in roles such as that of drug addict, Jane, in Breaking Bad, as well as b----, Chloe, in Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23.All of her characters are wonderfully diverse and fleshed out, but again, I think we all want to see Ritter take on that toughness and indominable spirit that she manifested as Jessica Jones. Shepard is the perfect part to spark that in her once again. -
4.
ROSARIO DAWSON
Rosario Dawson is another genre fan favorite actress, having performed roles in Men in Black 2, Sin City and its sequel, A Dame to Kill, Clerks 2, and Death Proof. She has also been the only Netflix Marvel character (Claire Temple, a.k.a. The Night Nurse), to stretch her role across every one of the interconnecting shows, with the exception of The PunisherBut one of her most impressive feats has come only recently, when fan-based demand and artwork convinced studio execs to cast her as the live action version of Jedi Knight, Ahsoka Tano (originally from the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) in the second season of The Mandalorian. Her performance was so universally lauded, that Disney Plus will be spinning her off into her own show. Anyone who can play an adult Ahsoka could certainly pull off a big screen Shepard. -
5.
KATHERYN WINNICK
Katheryn Winnick is a celebrated Canadian actress with many roles under her belt, but only one really matters in accordance with this list. She played Lagertha for 7 years in the phenomenal History Channel show, Vikings. There are few actresses who could stand toe-to-toe with Travis Fimmel as as his wife, and take no sh*t from the man. Lagertha died on the show as the greatest shield maiden in Viking history, slaughtering slews of warriors in the name of the gods for 7 seasons. Few actresses have shown such skill at combat on the screen for so long. Whether she could play Shepard is without question. -
6.
ALISHA BOE
Alisha Boe doesn't have quite the resume as many of the other entries on this list, but what she has done has been exceptional. And what she's done is play Jessica Davis for 3 seasons of 13 Reasons Why. On the Netflix series, Alisha's character has grown from a naive high school girl to a sexual assault victim to a strong leader of victims, willing to put herself out there for the progression of women's rights. For one so young, she has shown exceptional strength on camera. -
7.
EMILY BEECHAM
Emily Beecham was born to American crowds in Coen Bros. movie, Hail, Caesar! But her real claim to fame is as the indomitable Widow in AMC television series Into the Badlands. Her fight choreography on that show is more impressive than even its star, trained martial arts expert, Daniel Wu. And she plays one of the only female feudal lords on the show, master of all in her domain. A leader, a fighter, a visionary: these are all qualities of a believable Shepard. -
8.
TESSA THOMPSON
Tessa Thompson has come a long way in a short while. While much of her acclaim has been earned through political and African American rights-related roles, such as those in Dear White People and Selma, she has also garnered an impressive genre filmography, with performances in Annihilation, Men in Black: International, and most importantly, as Asgardian warrior, Valkyrie, in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame. That experience alone would put her on the fast-track to a Fem Shep role, but she's also done some incredible dramatic and action work on HBO's Westworld. In other words, she's got the goods. -
9.
NIAHM ALGAR
Niahm Algar is an Irish actress with some remarkable roles under her belt, most notably that of a beleaguered mother of an autistic child in Calm with Horses (known as The Shadow of Violence in the U.S.). But really, it's her performance as Sue, a battle-hardened refugee, who along with Travis Fimmel's Marcus, go behind enemy lines on an alien world fraught with both indigenous peril and a weapon of mass destruction class android. The look she takes on in the series needn't even be changed, should she play Shepard. -
10.
KATEE SACKHOFF
What can you say about Katee Sackhoff? She's born for the role. She cut her teeth playing the fanboy-favorite badass, Starbuck, on the rebooted Battlestar Galactica. Her take on the character was so perfect, she was nominated for four Saturn Awards, and she won the Best Supporting Actress on Television award.Since then, she's played the lead in the eighth season of 24, starred as a Deputy Sheriff in Longmire, and had a recurring role as a super-villain on The Flash. As if that wasn't enough, she performed the live action role of Bo-Katan (a character she had voiced on the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels) in The Mandalorian. The list goes on and on, but the fact remains: Sackhoff would make a perfect Shepard.
