I was given my first pair of glasses when I was in preschool. But apparently, my poor eyesight wasn’t due to astigmatism and lazy eye, I just didn’t believe enough in myself, or my eyesight.
Samantha Lotus is an anti-glasses grifter who went viral for claiming optometrists are lying about people's need for glasses. She is running online masterclasses called Visio Holistic Healing Masterclass and charges $11 dollars to attend. @mallorysthoughts, a health misinformation TikToker signed up for her course this week so hopefully no one else ever does.
I guess it was only a matter of time before the anti-glasses grift became a thing?

@mallorysthoughts reported on her experience in a TikTok video. Lotus starts the seminar with a legal disclaimer, saying that she is not a “pharma doctor” and that the masterclass is for “holistic, educational and empowerment purposes.”
I paid $11 for this Vision Healing Masterclass so you don’t have to This is my saturday morning cartoons. https://t.co/JHiaFErhqc pic.twitter.com/fhXE99eqo9

Through the seminar, Lotus claims that people's bad eyesight is not because of these medical diagnoses (like astigmatism and myopia) but because people are “unbalanced spiritually” and have “blockages” emotionally. Lotus claims you can improve your eyesight through physical eye yoga exercises, spiritual affirmations, and rubbing them with Immortelle oil.
The oil was the smoking gun for Mallory. The masterclass was not to show people that their glasses are a “barrier between you and the rest of the world” but a “Trojan horse scheme” to sell oil products for alleged MLM Doterra.

Doterra responded to Mallory's video exposing Lotus’ claims that the oil can cure bad eyesight.
While our products can be used to promote a healthier lifestyle and achieve certain wellness benefits, they cannot be used or marketed as capable of preventing, treating, or curing any disease or symptoms associated with a disease. (2/2)

“While our products can be used to promote a healthier lifestyle and achieve certain wellness benefits, they cannot be used or marketed as capable of preventing, treating, or curing any disease or symptoms associated with a disease,” the essential oil company wrote.
The masterclass turned pitch had over a hundred paid participants hoping to cure their poor eyesight. Lotus has not backed down from her position and has threatened Mallory for exposing her “masterclass.”
So to test Lotus’s claims, for the rest of the day I will pretend as if my eyes work perfectly and as if I believe in my inner strength to summon 20/20 vision.
