Though nearly eight years have passed since Harambe’s untimely death at the Cincinnati Zoo, it appears we have yet to learn our lesson about fucking around in gorilla enclosures — just ask the two unlucky zookeepers who found themselves face-to-face with a massive primate.

A pair of female staffers at Texas’s Forth Worth Zoo wound up between a fake rock and a potentially toothy place last fall, becoming trapped in a 34-year-old silverback gorilla’s enclosure.

In a newly released clip of the harrowing incident, the two employees could be seen running for their lives as Elmo, one of the Zoo’s star primates, followed behind, seemingly poised to attack.

“God help her, God help her, God help her,” a witness could be heard saying as one of the zookeepers hid behind a door.

The result of a lunchtime mixup — “Due to keeper error, staff entered the yard unaware that the silverback was still in its habitat,” a representative for the zoo explained to Daily Mail — these prayers worked. Using a combination of running and freezing, the women made it safely out of the enclosure, an outcome that’s seemingly unsurprising considering their pro status.

“The zookeepers work with and train these animals every day and thanks to their knowledge and expertise, they navigated the situation calmly and were able to exit the yard safely,” the representative added.

So take it from these terrified trainers — not every gorilla is as cute and cuddly as Koko.
