A Senate staffer who was filmed having sex in a congressional hearing room has gotten off for a second time after U.S. Capitol Police announced that nobody involved in the incident will be charged with a crime. The staffer still lost their job, but hey, let’s take our wins where we can get them.

According to Forbes, Capitol Police found that there was no evidence a crime had been committed, so that’s something to note for later, I guess: It’s completely legal to hook up in a congressional hearing room. One of the staffers worked for Democratic Senator Ben Cardin from Maryland, a role that gave him access to the hearing room. Cardin told reporters that he was angry and disappointed, and described the incident as a “breach of trust.”

Late last year, a short clip of the pair having sex was published by conservative outlet The Daily Caller, prompting other conservative websites to identify one of the men involved. Some Republicans were outraged by the clip, with Rep. Mike Collins asking “which desecration was worse” and posting a still from the video next to an image of the January 6th insurrection (the answer is that the insurrection was worse, Mike).

Conservatives now find themselves in the tricky situation of disagreeing with police, with many taking to social media to argue that despite police determining that no laws were broken, laws were definitely broken during the incident, they just aren’t sure which ones.

The staffer involved in the incident initially published a statement on LinkedIn in which he stated that “some of my actions in the past have shown poor judgement,” and did not deny his involvement in the video. But the post, and his LinkedIn account, have since been removed.
