South Korean opposition leader Lee Jae-myung got a whole lot more than he bargained for while interacting with a seemingly autograph-seeking fan this week  …. more specifically, a knife wound to the neck.

A visit to an airport construction site in Busan took a turn for the bloody on Tuesday when Lee was allegedly stabbed by an unnamed 66-year-old man moments after taking questions from reporters.

The suspected assailant, who allegedly sported a crown with the political figure’s name written on it according to Reuters, was quickly tackled to the ground and ultimately arrested. Though the motive behind the attack — videos of which have since gone viral on social media — remains unknown, it appears Lee will likely pull through.

While officials initially remained tight-lipped surrounding his condition, Democratic party spokesperson Kwon Chil-seung confirmed the politician was ultimately hospitalized for his injuries and is currently recovering from surgery after suffering “suspected damage to his jugular vein.”

Remember: When it comes to assassination attempts, what doesn’t kill you will only make you look 10x more badass.
