Nearly seven years after Gypsy Rose Blanchard pled guilty to second-degree murder in the death of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, a case that inspired Hulu’s 'The Act' and the HBO documentary 'Mommy Dead and Dearest,' the end of her time at Chillicothe Correctional Center is finally in sight.
Sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2016 after orchestrating the murder of her mother, who lied about Gypsy’s health, forcing her to use a wheelchair and take the unnecessary medication in what experts have dubbed a likely case of Munchausen by proxy syndrome, the 31-year-old could be paroled as early as December 2023.
Earlier this month, true crime influencer and podcaster @crime_cast detailed just how worried some of Gypsy’s friends have become surrounding the specifics of her release.

“Unfortunately, Gypsy’s friends and family are concerned about her release saying she needs to change her behavior, refuses help, and could end up back in prison,” she elaborated in her now-viral clip, referencing a 2021 In Touch interview with Gypsy’s family friend, Fancy Marcelli.
One creator claiming to be Gypsy’s step-sister Mia Blanchard is setting the record straight, reiterating that not all of her friends and family share these sentiments.
“That sentence that she said about refusing help, she’s not changing her ways, and she may end up back in prison? None of us think that and that’s not true,” Mia explained in her viral reply.

“Gypsy has changed so much, she has grown into such a woman being in prison. She is getting the help that she needs, she is getting the help that she wants,” she continued, reiterating just how much Gypsy has purportedly dedicated to change.
“So no, we do not think she’s refusing help by any means,” Mia quipped. That’s not going in any of our minds. I don’t know where she got that from, but it is what it is.”
