ellen degeneres in her mansion filming her show

In these troubled times, celebrities are doing more than ever to clarify that our problems are nothing but jokes to them. The latest entry into the Hollywood complain-athon comes from daytime hack Ellen Degeneres.

While filming from home at her 8,000 square foot, $27 million mansion in Southern California, Ellen joked that all the time spent with her spouse, Portia de Rossi, made her feel like she was incarcerated.

"This is like being in jail. Mostly because I've been wearing the same clothes for ten days and everyone in here is gay."

Never heard of a prison having an infinity pool or five bedrooms and ten bathrooms for every pair of inmates, but maybe some white collar prisons just hit differently.

In no time, people took to Twitter to call out Ellen for her bonehead remarks, especially considering how dreary conditions have become for many actual prisoners around the country.

The outrage against Ellen comes only a few weeks after people exposed her for having a history of being a terrible boss and all around rude person.

Stories of Ellen firing people for no apparent reason and dictating that employees not make eye contact with her were pretty revealing of her character.

While the pandemic has revealed many cracks and flaws in the U.S. economy and healthcare infrastructure, remarks like Ellen's are also reminders of how infuriating unchecked privilege really can be.

In the video, Ellen went on to say she "feel[s] bad for a lot of people" and that she "think[s] a lot of people out there need words of encouragement." With Ellen's resources to keep buying and flipping multi-million dollar mansions, people out of work and hurting from the virus could use a lot more than words.
