Californians love to brag about their superior weather; opting for wildfires and earthquakes in the place of rain, snow, and cold. But this past weekend the perpetually dry state was greeted by record-breaking rainfall in the form of Hurricane Hilary.


Despite being downgraded to a tropical storm before landfall, the severe weather event dropped up to 10 inches of rain across Southern California and caused severe flooding. Meteorologist Richard Thompson claimed that it was the state’s first tropical storm since 1939.


In preparation for the storm, Twitter user Kristi Yamaguccimane, @TheWapplehouse, advised Californians on how to stay safe. But above all else, he had one crucial tip: “DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH FLOOD WATERS!”



Tragically, Kristi revealed that a friend of his had lost a father trying to drive through a moving flood. “It only takes a few inches of moving water to sweep your car,” he said. “It’s deadly. DON’T DO IT.”


To prove his point, he decided to post a few examples of people trying, and failing, to drive their sportscars, and pickups through flood waters.
